Fifth Estate Kerala
The Fifth Estate is a socio-cultural concept that represents voices beyond mainstream media — including independent bloggers, vloggers, journalists, and citizens who engage through digital platforms and social networks.
Fifth Estate Kerala is an initiative focused on creating awareness among the public on important political, social, scientific, constitutional, and civic issues. Our aim is to build an informed society through fact-based discussions and responsible communication.
Why Fifth Estate?
Traditionally, the “Fourth Estate” refers to mainstream media institutions. The “Fifth Estate” represents independent voices — citizens, digital creators, cultural thinkers, and knowledge communities who contribute to public discourse outside traditional power structures.
Fifth Estate Kerala works to create such spaces for dialogue, participation, and awareness. We aim to highlight issues that are often overlooked and provide a platform for voices that need to be heard.

Fifth Estate Kerala stands firmly on the principles of the Indian Constitution. Our members are committed to upholding and protecting constitutional values whenever they are challenged within society.
Ambedkar Reading Circle (ARC)
One of our key initiatives is the Ambedkar Reading Circle (ARC).
This is a social and interactive reading session where participants gather in public spaces to read and discuss books related to constitutional values, scientific thinking, liberal ideas, and modern social thought.
The aim is to:
- Encourage reading habits
- Build critical thinking
- Create an informed and intellectual community
ARC has already conducted successful sessions and aims to expand across all 14 districts of Kerala by 2026.
Campus Chapters
Fifth Estate Kerala plans to establish Campus Chapters across educational institutions.
Our goal is to:
- Engage young minds
- Promote democratic thinking
- Build awareness about constitutional rights and responsibilities
These chapters will act as platforms for discussion, learning, and participation among students.
Supporting Voices
We strongly stand against social media bullying and discrimination.
Fifth Estate Kerala supports individuals who face harassment based on:
- Caste
- Religion
- Gender
- Colour
- Region or identity
We believe in protecting freedom of expression and creating a safe and respectful space for all voices.
Our Origin
Fifth Estate Kerala was born out of a need to respond to increasing social media harassment faced by artists, activists, and individuals expressing democratic and social views.
In September 2025, a group of like-minded individuals came together in Kochi to discuss the need for a platform that could:
- Protect freedom of expression
- Support democratic voices
- Create awareness in society
More than 50 participants from across Kerala attended this meeting, where ideas were shared on building a collective platform and a future media house.
The name “Fifth Estate” was suggested during this discussion and was collectively accepted as the identity of the organization.
